Children’s Water Festival

Tuesday, May 17th, 2022 – Dalhart Water Festival, Rita Blanca Coliseum
Wednesday, May 18th, 2022 – Perryton Water Festival, Frank Philips College – Allen Campus
Thursday, May 19th, 2022 – Dumas Water Festival, Moore County Community Building
Friday, May 20th, 2022 – Dumas Water Festival, Moore County Community Building

The Water Festival usually begins at 9:00am and ends around 2:30pm. Changes to the schedule can occur, so please contact the district if you are unsure. North Plains GCD asks that schools arrive 15-30min early to sign-in and get seated. It is imperative that schools RSVP for the water festival if they plan to attend, so the district can plan accordingly.

This year’s Children’s Annual Water Festival will be in Dalhart, Dumas & Perryton, TX. The North Plains Groundwater Conservation District’s “Save the Planet’s Water” festivals have evolved from Project WET’s national day of water education. This nationally recognized day is celebrated across the United States with water festivals. Water festivals are educational, fun and interactive water celebrations where students explore a diverse set of water-related topics.

What is a Water Festival?

Water festivals consist of multiple structured learning stations where students actively engage in hands-on water activities and investigations. Station topics include the hydrologic cycle, ground water, spring water, water quality, wetlands, water management, water conservation, soils and the properties of water. It can be a large event involving many students or a one classroom day of learning.

Why is it important to teach children about water resources?

One of our core beliefs is wise water management is crucial for providing tomorrow’s children with social and economic stability in a healthy environment. We also believe that awareness of and respect for water resources can encourage a personal, lifelong commitment of responsibility and positive community participation.

North Plains Groundwater Conservation District’s Water Festivals

North Plains Groundwater Conservation District holds three Water Festivals each year. Festivals are held in Dalhart, Perryton and Dumas. The festivals reach over 800 fourth grade students each year with critical information about their role in protecting one of the planet’s most precious resources!
