VFD Checkouts in Cooperation the USDA

In cooperation with the USDA(NRCS), North Plains GCD performs VFD (variable frequency drive) checkouts. These VFD’s are installed on electrically driven water wells to improve efficiency and conservation. VFD’s are used to control electricity output and can be adjusted based on water needs. Additionally, VFD’s provide cost savings by reducing energy consumption and maintenance costs, longer equipment life, and equipment reliability. The NRCS offers producers cost sharing funds through the EQIP (Environmental Quality Incentives Program). The district agreed to provide testing equipment pre and post VFD to ensure functionality of the VFD. Testing equipment includes an ultrasonic flow meter to record water discharge from the well, and an energy logger to record changes in electrical output.
