Groundwater conservation districts are regulatory bodies within the state of Texas charged with conserving groundwater resources throughout the state. These entities are governed by State Regulations under the Texas Water Code Chapter 36. The North Plains Groundwater Conservation District is one of nearly 100 groundwater conservation districts governed by the state of Texas. The purposes of groundwater conservation districts are to provide for the conservation, preservation, protection, recharging and prevention of waste of groundwater and of groundwater reservoirs or their subdivisions and to control subsidence.
